I've not had a look at this (but will) but I protect myself by using a
browser for Neopets and VPN only, and I visit no other site with it,
ever.

Although I see from http://avatar.starried.net/ that they believe the
rouge software is running on neopets web pages - naughty if neopets have
not dealt with that within hours of being made aware of it!

Having a fully patched operating system and browser is always good
advice also.

Hi Yellow yeah the neo grabber is from the neo site itself,
its in some of the shops,
if you see some very cheap in a shop alarm bells should go off.
but if you go ahead and try to buy it anyway and it is a grabber
this noscript will stop it.
note you will have to tell it to open the game screens
when you play a game, dont worry it will tell you how
to do this.

Thank you, Soviet, for pointing out this lovely add-on. I have installed
it in my Firefox browser. (I'll have to see if there is an equivalent
option for Galeon, or at least have my husband investigate. I play VPN
in Firefox and Neopets in Galeon, both on my Ubuntu 8.4 box.)

It's really too bad that we need these patches/add-ons/etc. I guess I'm
not going to be doing too much buying in the next few weeks. All the
more time for VPN!

VPN had a brief problem with a cookie grabber too when someone posted a
link to a site on their forum. The bug was fixed in matter of hours
though and of course the beauty of VPN is that we know it has been fixed
because Adam has told us so.

I am sure, because of the commercial risk, that bugs that allow know
cookie grabbers to infect Neopets are fixed almost as quickly but sadly
Neopets are not open about these issues so we are left wondering and
concerned.
